Clinical Pharmacology

This product is a derivative of artemisinin has a powerful and rapid killing effect on the intra-red stage of Plasmodium vivax, which can rapidly control clinical episodes and symptoms. The mechanism of action of artemisinin is not well understood, mainly interfering with the Plasmodium surface membrane - mitochondrial function. Artemisinin causes changes in the structure of the membrane system of Plasmodium by affecting the ultrastructure of the intra-red phase of the parasite. As a result of the action on the food vesicle membrane, the nutrient uptake of Plasmodium is blocked, so that Plasmodium loses a large amount of cytoplasmic and nutrient material without being replenished, and thus dies quickly. The mode of action is through its internal peroxide (peroxide) bridge, mediated by the free iron produced by hemoglobin decomposition, to produce unstable organic radicals and/or other electrophilic intermediates, and then form covalent adducts with Plasmodium proteins, which leads to the death of Plasmodium. The antimalarial activity of artemether is six times greater than that of artemisinin.
 

WARNINGS

Studies in animal reproductive toxicity have demonstrated increased embryonic uptake in mice when administered during the induction phase of pregnancy, but no teratogenic effects have been seen.
