The bottom line. Vitamin E is an important fat-soluble nutrient. It's a powerful antioxidant and is needed for immune health and cellular signaling in your body. Some studies show that taking vitamin E supplements may benefit certain populations, including people with diabetic nephropathy and NAFLD
Traditionally, vitamin E is administered via intramuscular (IM) injection. It has been maintained that, compared to IM administration, the subcutaneous (SQ) administration of vitamin E result in lower rate of uptake to appreciably increase plasma and tissue alpha-tocopherol concentrations .
There is no data available for effects in pregnancy, breast feeding, hepatic impairment, or renal impairment. However, it appears that the process of vitamin E elimination is strict and self regulating enough that vitamin E toxicity is exceedingly rare8,9. Studies showing adverse effects from excess vitamin E generally involve people consuming more than 1000mg/day for weeks to months15.
