COMPOSITIONS :
Metronidazole Infusion 500 mg/100 ml, each 100 ml infus solution contains : Metronidazole 500 mg.
DESCRIPTIONS :
Metronidazole containing Metronidazole is available in tablet 500 mg and infusion 500 mg/100 ml.
INDICATIONS :
Urethritis and vaginitis due to Trichomonas vaginalis.
Amoebiasis (intestinal and hepatic amoebiasis).
Prevention of post-operative anaerobic infection.
Giardiasis due to Giardia lamblia.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATIONS :
Intravenous infusion at the rate of 5 ml per minute. Metronidazole IV has to be replaced soon with oral administration.
Treatment of infections in which bacteria have been identified :
In patients whom oral medication is not possible.
Adult : 500 mg by IV infusion every 8 hours.
Children : 7.5 mg/kg BW every 8 hours.
Prevention of post operative abdominal infections (especially colorectal), gynaecology.
Adult : 500 mg by IV infusion before operation, followed by 500 mg oral medication every 8 hours as soon as this become feasible.
Children : 7.5 mg/kgBW (1.5 ml/kgBW) every 8 hours.
OVERDOSAGE :
Dose of Metronidazole up to 15 g may cause overdosage symptoms, such as : Nausea, vomiting and ataxia.
Treatment for Metronidazole overdosage : Supportive or symptomatic treatment.
